Mountains to Sea Burials was born from lives shaped by both the peaks and the tides. For over 20 years, we have made our home in the mountains, while always feeling the steady pull of the water—the oceans, lakes, and rivers that have guided our lives and, ultimately, this calling.
Our journeys have taken us across coastlines and open waters. Casey served in the U.S. Navy as a submariner and spent years living and working at sea, with time in Virginia, Connecticut , Miami, Naples, and Italy, deepening his respect for the ocean’s power and peace. Nancee grew up along the Great Lakes and later lived aboard a boat on the Intracoastal Waterway in North Carolina, embracing a life shaped by wind, tide, and the reflection of the sky. Together, we have raised our family surrounded by the cool mountain rivers of Western North Carolina.
Like many, we have experienced the loss of parents, family members, and dear friends. Through those moments, we found ourselves drawn to the water as a place of refuge and connection. It became clear to us that we could offer a natural, meaningful way to honor those we love. We could offer a return to the sea.
Mountains to Sea Burials is our way of offering that path. We provide ash scattering at sea with compassion, dignity, and integrity—for your loved one and for the environment. This is a meaningful journey for us. To us, the water is a sacred space of release and renewal.
